Catching some Rey's

Mountain bike legend Hans Rey.
Shooting with Hans is definitely a unique experience. He has such a different view of what is possible on a bike, and the skills to back it up. Here are a few shots from a recent photo shoot in San Clemente, Ca.

Street Dreams

Almost every day I pass by this dirt bank on my way to work. It's a natural slope with a bunch of loose dirt and leaves piled up. I kept thinking that it might make a pretty interesting shot. I chose local rider, Ryan Dale, for his "moto" style, and ability to blow up loose corners. About a month after mentioning it to him, we met up and went to get a closer look.
After setting up my flashes and picking an angle, we started trying some shots.  I was pretty happy with the results, but felt like it could be better.
For the last angle, I decided to leave out the flashes and use the natural light.
Right before his the 2nd attempt we noticed that these road bikers were heading our way.
We instantly agreed that we should try and get them in the shot. Ryan ran back and lined up with them as I scrambled to set the focus and composition. I fired off a quick sequence, and luckily everything was in place.

Its funny how, after all the planning and set up, the simplest shot worked out the best.

Storm Chasing

We have been getting some pretty mixed weather here in Southern California, which has created some really unique sunsets. You never really know what the weather is going to do, but always hope for the best.
This shot: Charlie Harrison takes advantage of the 10 min sun burst.

Jon Buckell rolling in to a Laguna beach rock face about 30 min. after the storm rolled through.

Kevin Smallman was visiting from Northern California and got in on the action.
